Mickey Mouse is a comedic animal cartoon character and the main symbol of The Walt Disney Company. He was brought to life by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks at the Walt Disney Studios in 1928. A mouse who wears red shorts, big yellow shoes, and white gloves, Mickey is now one of the most well-known characters in the world. His first appearance was in a short film (Plane Crazy) for a test screening. Mickey officially premiered in the short film Steamboat Willie (1928), one of the earliest sound cartoons. He starred in over 130 films, such as The Band Concert (1935), Brave Little Tailor (1938), and Fantasia (1940). Mickey was mainly featured in short films, but occasionally appeared in full-length movies. Ten of Mickey’s animations were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, with Lend a Paw winning the award in 1942.
